2010 was a difficult vintage across most regions with widespread and unexpected rain from March to May.
This led to pockets of botrytis and downey mildew in high density areas across most regions.
Fortunately Chestnut Garth vineyard is isolated on the northern edge of Orange so disease spores didn’t arrive.
We had lower yields of fruit with fantastic colour and clarity.
The wines look tidy in barrels.
The 2011 growing season is just under way and record rainfall has given our soil a wet profile leading to very vigorous shoot growth.
The challenge will be to manage the canopy and allow air flow and sunshine to keep the vines healthy.
We have small portions of the following aged vintages:
2003 Chestnut Garth Cabernet Sauvignon (made by Jim Chatto) $50
2002 Simon Gilbert Shiraz (part of the original twin series) $50
2003 Jim Chatto Shiraz (part of the final twin series) $70
2003 Simon Gilbert Shiraz (the other twin) $70
2005 BFL Brothers for Life Pinot Noir ($75)
2005 Jules ( Original Shiraz Cabernet Blend) will peak in 2018 ($100)
Note: at the time of printing these wines are in stock in very low numbers. Some may not be available at time of ordering if already sold.
